This park was originally named Caney Creek Lake State Park but in 2003 it was renamed in honor of Governor Jimmie Davis.

Davis was a popular governor and served two terms, one in the 40s and another in the 60s.

He also wrote the song You Are My Sunshine and the Sunshine Bridge which crosses the Mississippi River in South Louisiana is named after the song.

I assume that the marked trails in the park are hiking trails but they are not specifically signed one way or the other and I have seen lots of kids riding bikes on them.
